Thanks to the folks at Kick Boom Theatre, we are asked to go along with the entertainment myth that television actress Vivian Vance, who starred opposite Lucille Ball on the “I Love Lucy" show, did indeed fake her own death. Never heard that one? Neither did I but what happens in John Wuchte’s new re-imagining of a musical review which began three decades ago, looks to be a new “musical fantasy,” that you’re going to want to be present for. Billed as "a whimsical and poignant exploration of fame, identity and our unique obsession with television," Vivian Vance is brought to you by the team of John Wuchte and Michael Teoli.
Written by its star, Robert Bailey, In Some Dark Valley details the Appalachian story of a fiery Civil War-circuit preacher. Through story, song and multiple characters, by any standard of solo performance, this outing looks to be crafted with passion and compelling intensity. If you’re a fan of powerful, self-penned storytelling, you might want to grab a ticket to this haunting tale that questions religious fervor and redemption, amid the ruins of a country scarred by war, poverty and disease. Directed by Billy Siegenfeld.
Solo performance powerhouse, Pam Levin’s Astrologically Screwed, is her latest dive into spiritual self-exploration. This award-winning dramady takes us deep into the world of magic, angels, spirits and the aforementioned world of astrology, with what looks to be a thought provoking and hilarious evening. If you’re finding yourself stuck in the mire of this dark modern world, Astrologically Screwed just might set you free. Directed by Chera Marks.
Have you been practicing Yoga with no idea of what’s behind the art? Well, put down your Kombucha and come with dancer and performer, Mayuri Blandari, as she joins forces with Kali, Hindu goddess of Death, to explore the absurdities of Western Yoga culture. Through dance, percussion, poetry and spoken word, The Anti “Yogi” peels back the yoga mat to reveal the true ethos of Yoga. Co-directed by Shyamala Moorty and D 'LO.
